Feb 9 Council Meeting Stats
First, to those of you who visited this site earlier today and instead found an obnoxious Go Daddy advertisement, SORRY! I don't know what happened, but it was fixed fairly quickly.
And now, the update on what we'll be looking at on Feb 9th.
PUBLIC HEARING
1) Resolution declaring weeds, rubbish, refuse and dirt a nuisance: property owners to be notified.
There are about 8,200 vacant properties subject to this notification. If the resolution is adopted, notices will be mailed to these property owners. They will be asked to abate the weeds, rubbish, etc. or they will be assessed the cost for the city to conduct the abatement.
BUSINESS ITEMS
1) Consideration of Citizens Activity Teams Volunteer Program
This is a program brought forward by Mayor Pro Tem Bhutta. It is a program designed to use volunteers from the community for services such as: mail delivery between city facilities, light clerical, reception desk, illegal sign removal, on-site work at City Yard, Senior Center, Lake facilities, citizens patrol, business patrol, shoreline patrol, parking/traffic control, event assistance, neighborhood watch.
The estimated cost to implement the program without grant funding is $6,000.00
The estimated cost to implement with grant funding is $3,500.00
2) Modification to Grading Permit for the project known as La Strada
The applicant is requesting a modification to their grading permit to allow quarry/processing of material on-site, as well as acceptance of an addendum to their Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND). An MND is a document that shows how an applicant will reduce the effects their project will have on the environment (ie: air quality, noise, biological resources, transportation, etc.)

5 Comments:
WOW 8200 vacant properties...that's huge!!!
Big number but we have a lot of land. And we also have a lot of parcels of land that are quite small, slivers really, so many people own more than one "parcel". I don't have the breakdown of the lots/parcels, but I would assume many are lots that are not developed. We're not talking about 8,200 front yards that need to be cleaned up here :)
$6,000 for volunteers when you guys reduced the number of police officers and added the cost of dog parks doesn't seem to be a sound strategy to me. Why not wait until the city has a little more money in the coffers? You're going to have a hard time justifying the cost. I don't think it's a bad idea, always good to involve the community, but the timing is way off.
First of all, congrats on your new appointment! It will be nice to have a neighbor running the city.
Now for my concern:please do not allow the La Strada developers to turn their land into a mining operation! The noise, dust and general pollution of trucks running up and down our once quiet neighborhood street would be horrible. They have already unsettled the land to the point of terrible erosion into homes that border their project. Their solution was not to empty the very large V-ditches that border our Tuscany Hills, but to lay sandbags crossways ON TOP OF THE MUD FILLED DITCHES which will just send the water over the side into the homes with every rain. One such homeowner already had mud coming through her walls!
Sincerely,
Allyson Smith, Co-Chair, Tuscany Hills Landscaping Committee
The La Strada developers requested at the last minute to have their item pulled from the agenda. We listened to the public comments, which were heartbreaking, and let everyone know that NO WORK, with the exception of erosion control, is permitted until the developers come before the council, which should be March 23.
The Citizens Activity Team was approved, provided equipment is not purchased until there are are actual volunteers to use the equipment.
