What the Heck Happened Here?

Here's the rundown of last night's meeting everyone.

The reduction of TUMF fees

We decided to reduce them, but not by 50%. The majority of the council was not comfortable with this high of a decrease. There was some "spirited" discussion about the topic to be sure.
We did ask that they rework the proposal and bring it back when they're done.

The Grading Ordinance

This was unanimously approved, with some additional language added relating to prohibition of mining and processing material onsite for commercial purposes. This does not apply to permitted mines already established, this is strictly for residential and commercial developments. No spirited debate on this one as everyone recognized the value in protecting the city's best interests.

Reorganization of the Council

RDA Chairman - Bob Magee
RDA Vice-Chair - Tom Buckley
Public Finance Authority - Daryl Hickman
Mayor Pro Tem - Amy Bhutta

And I am proud to announce that I was appointed as the new Mayor.

I am looking forward to your ideas, suggestions and comments this next year, as always!

You are NOT the new mayor! That's awesome! Teach them how to behave with a little respect will you? I don't like how that last mayor was so rude to all of you and to the people who came to speak, no class!

Congratulations Mayor Melissa Melendez! It is nice to see that someone was appointed who cares about all the issues that go on in Lake Elsinore.

I'm not sure how I originally stumbled across your blog but, I wish the City of Elsinore had a blog for locals to refer to on a daily basis. We're so secluded from news out here. I see things happening in my neighborhood but, there's never a way to find out what's going on. What's going on with the city itself and development, issues, etc. I'd like to see your blog updated more often not just weekly. - Megan in Elsinore

Congratulations....I am so glad to see a mover and a shaker in the Major position, I agree with the previous poster. Councilmen McGee is rude and arrogant, we the people of Lake Elsinore need to be heard and the Council needs to consider and respect our voices! The City with so much potential and possibilities needs the right people in the Council that can turn this City back around to what it should be as growth, development and progress surround every town around us and we stand still.

Well thank you very much everyone! It's not an easy job, but I'm up for the task. As for Mr. Magee, I can assure you he is not intentionally rude to anyone, he's just a very serious person and takes his job seriously as well.

As for the blog site, DAILY UPDATES??? Well I don't know if I can make that promise, but I will try to update more often, how's that?

Megan, when you say you see things going on in your neighborhood but you have no way to find out what's going on, what types of things do you mean? Could you be more specific? That way I could be more helpful to you.

And you do have a direct line to your council members any time you wish to ask a question, or just bring up an issue, and that is through email.

If you go to the city's website every council member's email address is there for you, and you should really take advantage of that! Remember, we work for you, and you should get a quick response anytime you email one of us.

I absolutely respect what everyone has to say, and I wish more people would come to meetings and say what's on their minds. There's no need to feel intimidated, you have a right to speak up. That's what democracy is all about, government BY the people and FOR the people.

When that is taken away, it's called tyranny, so don't let that happen!
