Nov 10th Council Meeting Happenings
The following are highlights of agenda items for this week's council meeting.
To view the full staff report for these items, click on the underlined title of this post above.
1) Community Development Block Grant Funding Allocation (CDBG)
Each year the city receives an allocation of CDBG funds through the Economic Development Agency of Riverside. These allocations are based on population and are designed for assistance in areas serving low and moderate income.
Three community based non-profit organizations have requested funds through this program, as well as city departments/projects which also request funds.
The three community agencies requesting funds are The Boys & Girls Club, H.O.P.E, and The Assistance League of Temecula Valley.
The city hopes to receive $215,321.00 in funding this year.
2) La Strada Project Update
This development is in the Tuscany Hills area of the city. This report is on the agenda to answer lingering questions about the activity taking place, specifically the apparent quarrying of aggregate material.
I have watched 18-wheelers going in and out of that area for several weeks now, and have not had my questions answered to a level of satisfaction I am comfortable with, thus its placement on the agenda.
3) Approval of loan agreement in connection with the issuance of Public Finance Authority Tax Allocation Revenue Bonds.
This one is hard to explain using the language in the staff report, but essentially it is a suggestion to refinance some bonds and save money. It's estimated the savings would be $100,000.00 a year, depending on the interest rate.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can leave a post (which I prefer!) or email me at

Why couldn't we see the video again last night? Every other meeting I can't watch it at home because it keeps cutting out and I'm sick of it. How much money do we spend for that service?? Get a new provider or camera guy, whatever it takes so that we can actually stayed informed please!
And what is going on with buckly and his dui? What actually happened because the paper keeps changing the story? and why didn't he resign? If he can't be responsible and not break the law he should not be in a position to lead the city. This is wrong, you guys should have called for his resignation because it makes all of you look bad. Doesn't anyone see that?
I find it reprehensible that Buckley did not resign. He broke the law, put others in danger and still feels he is a good representative for our citizens. I completely disagree, as does everyone else I speal with. Elected officials should be above reproach. I will be voting to recall Mr. Buckley and I encourage the rest of the city council to show some leadership and implore this man to resign and save the city the cost of a recall election. We will not tolerate this type of behavior from our elected officials. We deserve better.
HEY, The 12:53 & 3:55 comments are right on. AMEN
Ms. Melendez I have to agree with the other two comments. It really is a poor reflection on the entire council, and somewhat implicates all of you and causes one to question the integrity of all members. I know that's not fair, but remember most people don't personally know city council members. We often times are left to form our opinions from what we read in the paper or hear from others. I applaud your efforts to keep citizens informed, it's a welcome change and you should commended for your efforts. However, you, the others, and Mr. Buckley really need to take into consideration what is best for the whole city and how this effects our reputation. We do not want to be known as the city with elected officials who break the law, especially one that involves the safety of the citizens. Drinking and driving is a serious offense and Mr. Buckley's behavior could very well have caused the death of one of the people he was elected to represent, or worse, one of their children. Encourage Mr. Buckley to do the right thing, for our sake.
Trevi violated a city code and Mr. Buckley saw fit to revoke their permit and their ability to have night time entertainment. He felt they broke the rules and should be punished. How then is it that he breaks the law, not just a city code, and he is allowed to remain in office?
And no, I do not work for Trevi, I've never been in the place myself. And I don't like how this Trevi has gone about this recall. I just know what I read in the paper, over and over again about this whole mess. I think it's a double standard to be honest. You can't hold other people accountable and not yourself.
As far as the problems with watching the meeting on t.v., I know, I know. I received emails about it, and we experience similar problems in my house as well. I've talked to staff, again, and have asked them to figure out the problem. Part of the issue is our equipment and that of Time Warner's from what I understand.
As for the DUI, there is nothing on the books that would legally keep councilman Buckley from continuing to serve on the council. It's his own personal choice. I assume by his comments on Tuesday night that he has made his choice. I will leave out my personal thoughts about it, for now.
It doesn't look good. Makes for a bad reputation, deserved or not. My neighbor said she thinks you're all in together. I told her I doubt that, but for what it's worth, that's the attitude out there.
About La Strada...which is no longer a development site for homes....For those of us who travel pot holed Summerhill and specifically live in Tuscany Hills. Are there any residents that are tired of the trucks, tired of hitting potholes, tired of rocks on the road, tired of the "quarry operations" going on at the La Strada Project west of Tuscany Hills, that was going to be homes, the dust from the quarry operations, the noise from the quarry operation, the pollution from the trucks, and specifically the DANGER these trucks pose to the children of Tuscany Hills School. They never stop at the stop sign. They just roll on through and even at the time that the kids are arriving and leaving school. Are there any residents out there that are concerned about this, all aspects of it.....
When is this city going to do something about the traffic and the street repairs in this town, Lakeshore at four corners is a mess, I think somone should sue the city for damages to vehicles and endangering lives trying to drive around here.
The roads are a mess, you've got that right. Well, not all of them, but a lot of them that's for sure.
About a month ago I asked a question about the damage done to our roads from development, and specifically, do we recoup the money to repair them?
The answer was no.
So, I requested that a hauling ordinance be drafted and presented to the council for approval. This ordinance will require developers to get a bond for hauling, and it they do damage to the roads, the bond pays for the repairs.
It will come before the council at the November 24th meeting.
It's a step in the right direction, what do you think?
I wasn't aware that the damage on Lakeshore and other roads in old town LE were the result of developers, more like years of use without any maintenance done, they are just worn out and neglected, like so many other areas of town.
I'm not saying that all road damage is the fault of developers, but some certainly is. We need to figure out a way to step up the repairs, in toher words, find the money, find ways to increase revenue so we have the money, and of course make sure we aren't paying for damage done by development. I get what you're saying though, loud and clear.
I was just reading several of the postings on here, it is a super idea that you have come up with for a way to talk to the community but I gotta tell you it sure appears that every time someone brings up what sad shape that this city is in you have some excuse why it isn't the cities fault. The way I see it is that the Mayor, City Manager, Council, code enforcement and police department are the ones responsible for what condition that this town is in, plain and simple, if you didn't want this town to be the dive it is you would not allow it, heck other towns would not even tolerate the stuff that goes on in this town. a resort town turned ghetto with the people running it having a million excuses, and it gets worse by the day.
Wow, just when you think you're doing a decent job...
I'm sorry you feel I'm making excuses for the "sad shape the city is in". I really don't know what excuses I've made, perhaps you could tell me? I've been on the council for almost a year now and I think I've done a darn good job so far, even if you did knock me down, drag me across the floor and kick me! Okay, that's an exaggeration, couldn't resist! One thing I'm not is thin-skinned.
What I try to do is give the information as I know it. I realize it's not always information that makes people happy, but I'm honest with my answers, no matter how unpopular they may be. No one likes to be lied to.
How about you give me some specifics about what you're unhappy about? That way we would have somewhere to start.
Go ahead, I can take it!
I see you decided not to post my comment or respond to it, perhaps there was too much reality to it!!!
To Anonymous - I have no idea which comment you're talking about, I post them all. Did you possibly place your comment under a different posting? I don't censor comments, unless they're vulgar or slanderous, none of which I've encountered so far.
Sorry if you feel your voice hasn't been heard, but I promise you I post all comments!!
