City Happenings and Alerts
A couple of updates for you on city events.
1) Trick or Treating on Main Street this year will be THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24th, not on Halloween day. This is due to the number of volunteers we need to put on the event. Many of these volunteers are from church groups and other community organizations, and they have thei own events they're putting together for Saturday night.
2) The Grand Prix WILL be taking place this year! The route is different than last year, which many people are happy about. The Grand Prix will be November 7th & 8th, and will start and end at the Diamond Stadium.
3) For the military veterans, their families, and those on active duty -
Once again health care benefits that you have rightfully earned through your selfless dedication to your country may be on the chopping block.

My husband is a veteran and they've been trying to pull this stunt for a long time now. He EARNED his medical care and he has the disabilities to prove it. How dare they tell us we have to pay for what we've earned. Is this how they plan to save money, on the backs of those who fought for their country? This is the thanks? You can bet I'll be making calls to the proper people. THANK YOU.
Thank you for the information on trick or treating because I so would have shown up downtown on halloween night! You saved me from having to deal with upset children, thank you!
Will you be posting what's going to be going voted on at the next city council meeting? I like getting the brief summary, if you could keep doing that it would be great. Keeps me and the missus informed.
Yes, I will post probably Friday night, and will be sure to do so for future meetings now that I know I have at least one person out there who is interested!
When will you guys decide on the recall? Or will you? The paper sounds like you are leaving it up to the county. Why wouldn't you just schedule a date?
The discussion about the recall election date will be held at Tuesday's city council meeting, October 27th. I know sometimes the articles in the paper can be confusing, I've had questions similar to yours recently. However, the reason we didn't set the date at last week's council meeting is because there existed the possibility of combining our election with the county's special election, which means we would not have to spend as much.
The county may hold a special election and here's why...
County Supervisor Roy Wilson recently passed away. His seat must now be filled, and there is talk it may be filled by Senator Benoit, who is termed out.
If the governor appoints Benoit, a special election will be held to fill Benoit's senate seat.
The governor may also just leave it vacant for awhile, who knows?
So, we were hoping he would appoint someone so that we could combine our election with theirs, reducing our cost, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen.
In short, the recall election date is on the city council's agenda for Tuesday night, October 27th. We weren't trying to let the county do it for us, we were trying to save some of your bucks!
Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense, so of course it didn't make the paper.
As the Holiday season approaches I just wanted to share with you the lack of shopping places that we still do not have in the Lake Elsinore area. I started my shopping in Menifee, what a nice center they have built for their community not only having a Kohls, Old Navy, etc., they have now added a TJ Max,Michaels, & Bevmo to the center. This center is really a one stop shopping area and they just keep expanding in spite of the recession. It's to bad developers don't want to do business in Lake Elsinore, I guess all that reside here will be spending their tax dollars in Temecula, Corona and Menifee, unless of course they do their Christmas shopping at Walmart, Target the empty outlet mall or big lots, oh forgot big lots is gone now too. Lake Elsinore needs to get their act together.
Hey wait! Big Lots is not gone, it just moved! It's now where the Do-it Center used to be.
However, I don't think that's the point of your post. I agree, lack of shopping like what is available in other cities just stinks. But remember, we do still have the Outlets, and Costco, and Target. But believe me, I get what you're saying completely. All I can say is we're trying, we really are, and we're trying hard. I do know these new shopping centers in other cities are losing money, for obvisous reasons. Let's hope they can keep their doors open despite what is going on.
Thanks for the response but I disagree with you on the shopping centers and stores loosing money. For instance in Menifee on Saturday, there was no place to park, in Kohls the line was at least 30 deep waiting to check out, the same at TJ Max and also Old Navy and Tillys and Tillys is not cheap. I had lunch at In & Out there was 15 or more cars in the drive through so I went inside, standing room only. I'm sure the the City is trying to get developers to come here but I sure don't understand why the surrounding new towns got it going on and LE has been around for many, many years and has nothing. As for Big Lots, thanks for the FYI, kind of a quirky little store that I don's shop in much unless i'm looking for storage bins :) Everyday that a resident of LE drives to another town for shopping or dinner this town just sinks down a bit further, we sure don't need another car dealership, bank or Hotel. Thanks

Agreed, good points. Business is picking up now that we're in the holiday season, that's true.
But regarding the car dealerships, that is BIG sales tax money. That's why the city of Cerritos did so well, they had many car dealerships. Of course, their revenue is down now too, but it puts a city in a better position if you can sock away money during the good times for when bad times come.
We need an Economic Development Division within our city. That is how these other cities are successful, they have personnel dedicated to bringing in business, who know how to do it.
We have had to lay off personnel, but when the tides turn I will be screaming for an Economic Development Division. It's the difference between our city getting a bite of the apple or a neighboring city getting it first.
No disrespect but this city has been established for a very longggggggg time, I think that there should of already been an Economic Development Division in place. The only new businesses that open in this town are Mexican restaurants, immigration services, I know the council doesn't have any control over whomever owns the building and who they lease it to, but the City does issue the business license. I am sorry if I sound like a rag but I have been waiting for years along with others for this town to get their act together and it just gets worse and worse, long before the economy went in the toilet. And by the way.......we have needed someone like you for years!!!!!!!!
Okay, well I was about to feel REALLY bad, until I read your last sentence, whew!
You're right, we should have had an economic development department a long time ago, like 60 years ago!
We can't deny a business license though just because someone thinks we have too many mexican restauants. It's illegal.
And can you imagine the type of graft that would exist if the city, or council members had the final word on who gets a business license? Holy Cow! People talk about crooked politicians now, the behavior of San Jacinto council members of late would be the norm!
That is exactly what we do NOT want. If you want to open up a muffin shop, and I don't like you, I could keep you from opening up your business. That goes against the freedom and opportunity this country stands for.
Don't despair, you have people on this council who are working their tails off to turn things around.
And, thank you for the compliment!
We all appreciate what the new council is trying to accomplish but it is frustrating for the taxpayers that reside in this town. Year after year we watch what goes on around us and yet we remain the same...it really is pathetic.
