Free for All FRIDAY
Today is Free For All Friday! That means you get to post your comments, complaints, suggestions or words of praise (my personal favorite) on any topic you choose.
Now, please, keep it clean. No name calling, no vulgar language, no nasty personal attacks. Also no biting, scratching or hitting. (oh wait, that last part is actually for my kids).
So, if you have something on your mind that hasn't been addressed on this blog or otherwise, let's hear it!

when are we going to get the Fresh and Easy?
OMG I was just going to ask the same question:) I just returned from a week long vacation in Idaho, Boise is such an old historic town but what amazed me the most is how clean it is. There is not trash laying all over the roads or potted cracked streets, it's a shame that we can not have that kind of pride in our own historic town.
Are we having a recall election or not? If so, when do we find out who will replace Buckley?
Fresh and Easy...well as you may or may not know, the Voters Against the Lake Street Marketplace (which consists of only two people by the way) have retained the services of an attorney to sue to stop the project. So at this point, I don't know. It's not a no, and it's not a yes.
As for the recall, the registrar of voters has to certify the petition circulators, and that should be done by next week. If she certifies them, to the best of my knowledge, it will go to special election no sooner than approximately 80 days from certification.
As far as a replacement, should this get to an election, I think, but don't quote me, that a replacement candidate will also be on the ballot when voters choose whether or not to recall councilman Buckley.
Sometimes I forget to check the city council agenda on line before meetings and am surprised by topics that come up. Two question: First, how does an item get on the agenda? Who decides what is there? Second: Is there a way to have email sent to me either with the agenda or when it is posted? Kind of like that alert you mentioned in an earlier post? It seems like it would be a good idea to let people know when there are updates to the web site and when new information is posted.... thanks for the chance to comment.
Items are placed on the agenda by city staff/city manager, as well as by the mayor or other members of the city council if they request.
The answer to your next question is yes, you can receive an email notification of upcoming city council, planning commission and public safety advisory commission meetings.
Just go the the city's homepage, click on the tab at the top titled "e-subscribe", and choose from the menu the notifications you want to receive.
I have to say, it's a great little reminder tool and there are some other neat things on there to choose from too.
I think from now on I will post a list of items of interest on the city council agenda before our meeting, just to give people a heads-up as to what we'll be discussing or voting on. Hope that helps!
I see another antique store has left main street, what's happening down there?
What can be done about the annoying soliciters outside the grocery stores. It's very tacky.
I'm not sure which antique store you're talking about, but people just aren't shopping like they used to. When you look at the unemployment rate in this state it's no wonder.
And antiques probably aren't very high on the priority list for most people right now, they're opting for things like food and gasoline.
To put it into perspective, the national unemployment rate is 9.7%. California's is a whopping 12.2%. It's the 4th highest in the country. Michigan has the highest at 15.2%, so I guess we should be glad we're not Michigan.
So, what is going on? Well, not much apparently in the way of sales.
Do them a favor, go shop local :)
Pesky soliciters...yes, I know. You can't go ANYWHERE these days without someone hitting you up as you walk in/out the door.
Yesterday, I had a college student knock on my door trying to sell me the LA Times. I won't even go into what it says about the LA Times that they have to get starving college students to shlep their paper, but I will tell you waht can be done.
Nothing.
Yep, that's right, nothing. They have earned the right, in court, to park themselves outside the door and harass you all day long.
That's why many stores put up a sign that essentially says "we don't want them here either, so please ignore the solicitors".
So, ignore away. Make it a game, pretend to talk on your cell phone as you walk out, fake a sneezing attack, or one of my favorites, feign interest and then start talking in French. I've never met a solicitor who can speak French, ever.
Okay, I have a confession to make (because my husband called me out on it). When it comes to "solicitors", I've never met a Girl Scout cookie I didn't like. Or a chocolate bar, kettle corn, and any other food for that matter. I turn the French language button off for them :)
