Hodgepodge
Tonight's blog is a little of this, a little of that, since there isn't much new going on right now.
Part I - For those who read about the floating islands that are going to be installed in our lake, let me clarify something.
In an article in the Californian newspaper it was stated that "Lake caretakers hope the islands will help maintain the lake's oxygen at a healthy level."
These islands will have NO EFFECT on the lake's oxygen levels folks. They might have an effect in the cove where they will be placed, but that's about it. I don't know why it was reported that way, but I can tell you with certainty that these islands are not going to solve occasional oxygen level problems. They're too small, and will only be in the cove.
The Lake Elsinore San Jacinto Watershed Authority (LESJWA) received a $25,000.00 donation from an organization called The Inland Empire Waterkeepers specifically for these islands.
Now I know what you're thinking, couldn't the money have been spent on something else? It would have been nice if we had received enough money to, perhaps, add some aeration lines to the lake, but unfortunately, the cost of those would far exceed the amount we were given.
Part II - This may be the week the state assembly passes the "Get Out Of Jail Free" bill (ie: early release of prisoners). I'll be watching and will let you know what I hear. I'm told that they may be stripping out half of it, but we'll have to wait and see. I hope everyone has contacted Speaker Karen Bass to tell her she's nuts if she thinks we're going to put up with this. The state wants to take their fiscal crisis and dump it on cities to deal with, also known as passing the buck.
I'll keep you posted. (no pun intended)

Heard they're going to release the prisoner, is that true?
The bill passed the assembly today, sadly. It is a bit different than the original, but not nearly enough.
The proposed "deal" was supposed to cut $1.2 billion from the budget. The bill that passed today falls short of that mark by $230 million.
So what was cut? Well, parole supervision for "low-level" offenders would be reduced.(what their definition of low-level is remains a mystery)
Also, if a prisoner completes a rehab progam, they get a 6 week early release from prison. (anyone up there in Sacramento ever check out the rate of recidivism?)
Speaker Karen Bass feels that the only reason more assembly members didn't vote for the bill is because they are running for re-election or higher office. I mean, it couldn't possibly be because they fear for their safety and feel a sense of responsibility to their constituents to insure THEIR safety right?
This bill must go back to the Senate for approval before it goes to the governor, and the State Senate leader Daryl Steinberg has already stated he will not bring it up for vote in its current form. (ie: try again Assembly, and this time give us what we want or we'll keep sending it back).
Did I mention the state could appeal this all the way to the supreme court since the feds are interfering in our state's affairs?
Maybe the 3 federal judges who said we have to release these prisoners will give our state money to house these prisoners in county jail. And maybe I can communicate with caterpillars.
So, stay tuned, let's see what tomorrow brings by way of more information.
Good reporting Melissa, thanks for keeping us updated. Sales for barbed wire fencing should increase now.
God save us all. What are they thinking?
Vote them all out, especially Karen Bass....this is the most ridiculous thing to come down in decades. While I do applaud the Governor for some things putting the public's safety at risk is absurd. Do you think that the PD has enough on force to handle this kind of action because you know somehow they will end up here, they always do.
Well they end up in a lot of places unfortunately. Let's hope they all end up in the district of Karen Bass.
No wonder people are leaving this state. Too bad we couldn't all go up there and picket outside the capital, not that they care anyway since we aren't unions coughing up big bucks into their campaing accounts.
